Representing Club & Country
Tax deductible
The New York Ramblers were the first openly gay sports club in the United States, starting in 1980 with a small group of a men who met in Central Park to play soccer. Today, the club has more than two hundred active members and offers a safe, inclusive environment for players of all skill levels.
I found the club when I was in my mid twenties, looking for a group within my community to connect with, outside of the bar scene and with shared interest. What I found was a family. One that has provided a safe space for soccer, an accepting enviornment for me to be myself, and allow me to give back to my community. I've been on the volunteer board of directors for three years, and two years prior to that.
Each spring, we host the Bob Whitmore Indoor Classic, a local tournament that regularly draws teams from across the country and around the world. This April we’re thrilled to celebrate our twenty-second tournament! And in 2015, we launched the New York Ramblers Scholarship, an award aimed at supporting LGBTQ+ athletes with college expenses.
This summer, we have an opportunity to represent our club, our city, and our country at the 2018 Gay Games in Paris. As part of our preparations, we’ve made a commitment to provide financial support to all our members interested in participating in this once in a lifetime opportunity. To reach this goal, we are asking for your support!
Proceeds will be allocated towards new kits (jerseys, shorts, socks) for all three teams (46 players), as well as assistance with flights, accommodations, and in-town transportation to games. All donations are tax deductible. and a receipt will be sent directly to your email.
Thank you for your support!
