The 4th grade teachers at Starr Elementary would like to start a GoFundMe campaign for Melissa & Chris Jordan. As many of you are aware, Melissa was diagnosed with breast cancer in July. On October 4th, 2016. Melissa had a mastectomy to remove the cancer. The doctors feel confident that they were able to get all of the cancer, but are wanting to start chemo soon to ensure it does not come back.
Then on October 18th, her husband Chris had to have surgery due to blood clots in his right leg. There was some difficulty within the surgery and the doctors had to make additional incisions to try to regain blood flow. Two days later, Chris had to have the lower part of his right leg amputated due to an almost complete lack of blood flow to the foot. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem and Chris continues to have issues with the blood not flowing to the rest of the leg. On October 28th Chris will have another surgery to amputate above the knee in order to remove more traumatized areas of the leg.
Melissa is still facing reconstructive surgery in the months to come, providing recovery proceeds as planned. There will also be many follow up appointments with different doctors. Chris is also facing at least three months of rehab at the present time.
Our hope is to raise funds to help offset the medical costs for Melissa and Chris. They have already accrued many medical expenses and have many more to come. In addition, they currently live in an apartment that will no longer be assessible for Chris and will need to find a more suitable place to live.
We would like to start raising funds immediately to help relieve the extra stress that comes with all the unexpected medical expenses!
Melissa means the absolute world to us here at Starr Elementary and so many others within our community. She has given so much to everyone without asking for or expecting anything in return. Now we have the opportunity to show her our love and support by helping Melissa and her family. We are so blessed to have Melissa as a friend and colleague, as we are sure many of you are as well.
