Women Of Nepal
Donation protected
Have you ever felt like an outcast? 15 year old Sarmila Bhul certainly did before her life ended. She was just one of countless victims of a practice called chaupadi, which translates to “untouchable ones.”
This longstanding Hindu tradition deems that women are ceremonially unclean for the duration of their menstrual cycle and therefore must stay inside small sheds during that time. This is not only unsanitary and lonely, but life threatening and dehumanizing. Frequently these women will be injured or killed due to potential dangers such as rape, venomous snake bites, and untreated illnesses. Those who escape that fate still can’t escape the burden of feeling unwanted in their community.
Chaupadi has been outlawed since 2005, but its deep roots in rural areas have made it a challenge to eradicate. By donating you will be funding a team based in Nepal that is working diligently to educate the men and women of Nepal about the natural process of mensuration and reduce the stigma so that chaupadi will eventually end. Take action because their lives are worth it and they deserve to know that.
