Many people know my father Buckley from the School District, the father to 3 girls and the husband of 30 years to Miss Debbie. He is also fighting cancer. We got the news last month after a routine colonoscopy. The uncertainty of not knowing how far it had spread and what to expect next caused everyone to panic, everyone but Buckley. My father was sitting in his hospital bed pretending the I.V. plugs inserted into his hands were Spider-man web guns, trapping everyone around him. This is exactly what I expect from my father.
Fast forward 1 week of anxiousness, sleepless nights/tears and endless prayers later: They were able to remove the tumor! 2 millimeters lower and he would have to have his colon removed and have a bag for the rest of his life. 2 more weeks of waiting we got the news, they believe the cancer has not spread BUT he will need to undergo both radiation and chemotherapy treatments 5 times a week for the next 6 months.
While we are EXTREMELY grateful the cancer was caught early and has not spread we still have more challenges ahead of us. He has months of recovery ahead of him and after going over our combined finances (both my little sisters have gotten jobs to contribute) over and over and over again, it just is not enough. Not even nearly enough. The expenses to battle cancer are overwhelming even with insurance. Chemotherapy, radiation, co-pays, scans, tests, gas to drive 50 miles every week-day to the hospital, etc have added up to thousands of dollars out of pocket and will only increase as the days go by.
I'm hoping to raise money to help soften this incredible hardship for my family. I have the current goal set as is but honestly we are happy with any help we receive, no donation is too small.
