On December 21, 2016 baby Michael Kurt was born, or as his family and friends refer to him, Baby Mal. In August of 2017, his mother Beth noticed a bulge in his abdomen and took him immediately to the doctor. They sent him for ultrasound, CT scan and biopsy and admitted him to CHOC.
On Beth's birthday, this family received the devastating news that this "bulge" was an aggressive malignant tumor that had spread to nodules in his lungs. The family is awaiting the biopsy results and installation of a port line tomorrow to confirm which type of tumor it is (results may take up to a week) and to prep him for what'll probably be 6-8 months of chemotherapy.
He will not be able to join Beth at her job as a Montessori teacher because his immune system will be so weakened. This family relies on two incomes and with Beth now being forced to stay home to take care of Baby Mal's needs, we need to rally as a community and give them the support to survive.
