The situation in India is worsening every day. Whether we donate or spread awareness, we hope that whatever small steps we take can make a difference in the lives of our friends and family in India
As a company based in the U.S. and serving the Indian population here, Subziwalla shares a sense of helplessness with the rest of the diaspora.
We are also in a unique position among other companies like us who cater to the diaspora: We have close to 50 team members based in India who have been personally devastated by the harsh reality over there. Some have fallen ill themselves. Some are caring for friends and family. Some are searching for hospital beds and ventilators, or have sadly lost loved ones to the ongoing pandemic.
Subziwalla lost some team members as well.
Our team, like many, is scrambling. They’re traveling days on end, going from hospital to hospital searching for a place for their families to receive the medical attention they need. If or when they finally find a hospital, they’re spending upwards of 1000 USD per day to ensure their family members get the care they desperately need.
We’re doing what we can from here. We are supporting our team with unlimited paid time off. We've donated to relief efforts, called hospitals to try and find beds, oxygen, or ventilators, and even hosted Q&As with leaders on the front lines to help share credible, reliable facts about the pandemic (watch our latest Q&A here ).
We have also heard from many friends, family, customers, and contacts that they want to help in any way. Our team in India needs us now, more than ever. As a small business, we can only do so much by ourselves.
This is why we decided to launch this Gofundme campaign.
Subziwalla is raising $50K to help our team members in India cover the extra medical expenses that will arise as they care for their families, or in the worst-case scenario, pay for funeral services.
Our team is the heart of Subziwalla. They have always strived to make our customers feel like part of the family. Now is the time to help them in their moment of need as they try to manage the crisis in India.
