On Thursday, March 15, 2018 this young couple's lives got completely turned upside down after receiving one phone call at approximately 6:30 in the afternoon. The story is that Matt had been to the doctor earlier that week for cellulitis to the lower leg. On Thursday he had another similar area pop up on the opposite leg. He went back to the doctor on Thursday afternoon and got some bloodwork done. When he got home he got that devastating phone call, which was the doctor telling him to drop whatever he is doing and go to the ER right away. Matt and Samantha followed the doctors orders and went to Archbold ER in Thomasville, GA. More blood work was done which said that Matt's white blood cell count was extremely high. Matt got admitted to the hospital Thursday night not knowing what to expect. On Friday he endured a painful bone marrow biopsy and was informed that he would be shipped to Emory in Atlanta, GA for definitive diagnosis and treatment. The doctor in Thomasville expressed that they are 99% sure that this is some form of leukemia. Matt got to Emory late on Friday, March 16, 2018 by ambulance with his family by his side. According to Matt's wife, Samantha, he had a lot of tests done today and they were informed they will be there at least one month at Emory. They have a 4 year old son, Mason who is the light of their lives. They will have to be away from him for extended periods during this time. They will both be missing work not to include gas money for family's traveling back and forth. Matthew is one of the sweetest guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and this is truly a tragedy.
