Ben Nevis May 14th 2022 for Kieran J Binnie

Donation protected

On the 10th April 2021 my Brother and hero Kieran J Binnie lost his battle with depression and took his own life. A day that changed our family forever.

Through Kieran's creative writing and woodwork business Over The Wireless, Kieran championed "Community is the Solution" bringing together like-minded people to share skills and experience. He believed in people and the power of community.

Team K will be climbing Ben Nevis on the 14th May 2022 to raise money for Quench Arts, who share Kieran's values, and support people with mental health and isolation through the power of music. A passion that filled Kieran's world. Kieran would have been celebrating his 40th Birthday in May. He was a giant of a man in so many ways, so to climb the tallest mountain in the British Isles seemed a perfect way to remember him but also to try and stop another family from going through the same pain.

"Quench Arts were incredibly saddened to hear about the loss of Kieran last year and have been deeply touched that his family have donated a significant sum to our wellbeing programme in Kieran’s name.

Quench Arts is a community interest company based in Birmingham (www.quench-arts.co.uk). One of the largest areas of our work is our wellbeing strand, where our main focus is providing creative music-making activities for young people and adults who struggle with poor mental health and/or social isolation.:

Through our sessions, we aim to help build people’s confidence, their self-esteem and self-worth and provide a positive outlet for people to express their feelings and emotions. Initially, we work on a one to one basis, encouraging members to write their own songs or music and to build their skills in the process. When they feel ready, they can join group sessions to connect with other members through music, all who’ve faced similar personal challenges, building friendships and a peer support network.

We are so touched that the Ben Nevis team wish to support our work and we wish them so much luck! We hope you all have an amazing adventure! Any monies donated will directly benefit new members to Musical Connections, providing one-to-one sessions for people struggling with mental ill health"

So many of you have already donated previously, but as a family, we follow Kieran's lead with a commitment to a cause and ask you to dig deep again.

I miss my brother so much and hope that he is with us on the 14th of May.
