Team Invitrow-Talisker Whiskey Atlantic challenge

Hi, we are team Invitrow. In December 2024, two childhood friends, Phil and Dan , from Shrewsbury, Shropshire will board an ocean rowing boat and attempt to row unaided across the Atlantic Ocean to win the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge as a pair.

WHAT'S IT LIKE?...

Claimed to be ‘The World’s Toughest Row’, the race will challenge and push every element of the mind, body and soul of team InvitRow as they endeavour to row from La Gomera, Canary Islands to Antigua in the Carribean. Achieving our goal will require us both to row around the clock 24/7 to keep the boat shifting. Combine this with battling the elements, sea sickness, sleep deprivation, packet food, a bucket for a toilet, salt sores, 20 ft waves, broken/lost equipment and cramped living conditions.... There will be some less than human bodies landing at Antigua! With the finishing line 3000 miles away, it is the ultimate physical and mental test.

The world record for the fastest pair was set in January 2021 by Marks Slats and Kai Wiedmer at 32 days, 22 hours and 13 minutes. Our aim is to beat their time and win the Skye Trophy as the fastest pair. In order to do this we will need to row at an average speed of over 3.2 kts, taking it in turns at the oars; 2 hours on, 2 hours off!

All proceeds from this Go Fund Me page will go towards the purchase of our boat and essential equipment.

As well as funding our boat, we are hoping to raise money and proceeds for our chosen Charity Fertility Network UK. This is a charity that is close to both of our hearts as we have both experienced fertility struggles first hand. We are doing this row because we want to raise awareness of fertility issues and want people (especially men) to have open and honest conversations about infertility. To know that they are not alone, they are not the first and they will not be the last. Around 1 in 7 UK* couples will experience fertility issues, that means at the very least we will all know of someone who is struggling or has struggled with infertility.

Fertility Network UK is the nation’s leading patient-focused fertility charity, a small charity working hard to help the 3.5 million people affected by the devastation and pain fertility issues wreak. They are the patient voice in the campaign for equitable access to NHS fertility treatment in the UK – based on medical need and not postcode and ensure that the issues which matter to patients are heard by politicians, policy-makers and health commissioners. They provide free and impartial support, advice, information and understanding for anyone affected by fertility issues.

As mentioned above all of the proceeds will be going towards our boat and essential equipment. If there is any money remaining after the purchase of the boat and equipment this will be donated to our charity.
