If you had a baby at ALMH, or more recently had a hospitalization, you have more than likely met Helen (Crosier) Conrady. Helen has been a nurse for many years, providing the best care to all the patients she has treated. Her kind, loving, and giving heart has been the staple of her being and the core of her upbringing. Now, Helen and the family need your help.
On August 14, 2017, Helen’s life and vision for the future changed in a heartbeat. She had been having difficulties when eating, and after many tests, she was expecting to hear she had an ulcer. Instead, she found out she had esophageal cancer.
Initially treatment was going to be chemo, radiation, and surgery. After seeing many doctors to arrange the treatment plan, Helen was told surgery would more than likely not be possible.
Although it is believed that the chemo and radiation were helping shrink the tumor, Helen has not handled the treatments well. The chemo has made her very sick and caused her to have non-stop vomiting. The radiation has caused a great deal of pain. Due to her complications from treatment, Helen had a feeding tube inserted on October 4, 2017. Shortly after the feeding tube was put in place, she got an infection that again caused pain and hospitalizations.
Helen was told on October 19, 2017 that it was time to stop treatments and to bring in hospice and to enjoy as much life as possible in the time she had left. Instead, after much research, we decided to get a second opinion in St. Louis at Barnes Jewish Hospital.
As you can imagine, travel, lodging, and medical expenses are piling up. We are raising funds that will allow Kathy (Helen’s sister) and Helen to stay in St. Louis as much as needed to reduce the time back and forth as traveling isn’t easy for Helen.
If you are able to give any amount, the family appreciate it beyond measure. If you are unable to give money, prayers are appreciated as well!
