Kurt Dankenbrink, Rob Mapes, Mike Tullo, Emily Tullo, George Zito, Anthony Ciuffo, Jason Horowitz, Paul Stachlik, Heather Stachlik, Brian Wolken, Debbie Wolken, Rob Jung, Amanda Jung, Rob Duke, Sarah Duke, Susan Cunnane, Jenn Strauss and Luke Strauss will be running over 50 total miles in the 2017 Ocean to Sound Relay as a team to help create awareness and ease the financial and emotional burdens that cancer places upon families.
Our Team is called Team Dank- Cancer Crusher’s and we will be running for Jen Dankenbrink. Jen is a mother of 3 beautiful children and lives in the Wantagh Community. Jen is a High School Math Teacher and Varsity Soccer Coach. Before Jen’s diagnosis she was an avid runner and otherwise healthy person. A few months ago Jen started to feel short of breath on her daily runs. The pain worsened and she went to the doctor. After a few weeks of testing and uncertainty, Jen was diagnosed with 12 cm cancerous mass surrounding her heart and lungs. The doctor’s determined Jen had Grey Zone Lymphoma which is a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Jen is one of a few hundred people world-wide that receive this diagnosis each year. The mass was inoperable due to the close proximity to vital organs. Her only option was a combination of chemotherapy and radiation. The news was devastating and Jen had to prepare for the fight of her life. She has been unbelievably strong and brave. During the past few months Jen has undergone several chemotherapy treatments. Each cycle required Jen to receive five straight days of chemotherapy. Jen’s next challenge is several weeks of radiation treatments. For those that don’t know Jen she is a devoted mother, wife and wonderful friend. Jen has a heart of gold and is so thoughtful and giving to everyone she meets.
