Hello, friends. As most of you already know, my 30-year-old-forever-kid brother, Christopher, lives with Tourette Syndrome, is on the Autism Spectrum, and his OCD ensures everything remains tidy in his realm.
On Sunday, February 18, Chris was hospitalized due to a serious injury caused by one of his more intense tics. He thrust his neck and head so forcefully that he actually broke a cervical vertebra which caused numbness on the entire right side of his body. After tests, a hospital-to-hospital transport, and even more tests, it was found that the broken vertebra created a tear in an artery which caused him to have multiple minor strokes. Fortunately, he is lucid, regaining feeling and can fully smile.
He will need surgery at some point to repair the broken vertebra, but that has to wait for the artery to heal first. In the meantime, he is still in ICU and is being fitted with a custom-made neck brace. At some point he will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility. And that's about all we know so far.
Some of you also know that my mother, Sharon, just recently spent a week in the hospital with respiratory issues. Paul, Chris's father, has been helping our grandfather recover from a stroke that he had in January. So, our family is having a rough start to this year.
I am starting this fundraiser to help supplement my mother's income so she can concentrate on caring for Chris. She is currently the sole breadwinner in the house and just cannot afford to miss any more work. Anything you are able to give to allow her to be with Chris and still pay the bills of the house will be deeply appreciated. My family thanks you all for your prayers and well wishes.
