ANTHONY "AJ" UNPINGCO
2018 started out as a pretty good year for AJ. He had a great Junior year at Timberline High School. He was part of the Symphony Choir, played on the high school Soccer team, went to Homecoming and Junior prom, even went on a trip to San Fransisco with his classmates. He is a straight A student, and one of the top students of his class.
Around June, 22nd, his 17th birthday, he noticed a few small lumps underneath his skin. Over the next few weeks, the lumps multiplied and grew. In July, not long after our very 1st family camping trip, he was referred for further testing. On July 26th, after many appointments, a biopsy, scans, ultrasounds, and blood draws, we got the diagnosis, Stage II Nodular Sclerosis Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Soon after, on August 3, he was admitted to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital to get his chest port placed, and to start his 1st round of chemotherapy. His recommended treatment is four 3-week cycles of chemotherapy. Additional scans will be completed have cycle 2, and this will determine if radiation treatment will be needed and if the chemotherapy regiment needs to be adjusted. He is being seen by his doctor and care team 2-3 times per week to monitor his overall health, weight, and blood counts.
He is about finished with cycle 1 of his treatment plan. This cycle started a bit rough, but at this time he is still pretty active. Despite his thinning hair, you would not be able to tell the fight is currently battling.
AJ still has a great life to live, and so much to look forward to. He is still trying to decide what colleges he will be applying to this Fall, he will be part of the Timberline yearbook club, and can't wait to walk across the stage to receive his diploma on June 12th, 2019.
