Hi, my name is Juan-Luis Panizo, founder of Spanish Millennium , a language school based in New York and Washington, D.C. We teach Spanish using tutors based in the U.S. and worldwide.
In March 2022, we began offering free Spanish courses to all Ukrainian refugees in Spain, who urgently need to learn the language to be able to function in the community. We are working both with adults and children. Our virtual sessions allow refugees to participate from across Spain. They mainly use our tutors who live in Spain, so that the students can also learn about the country's culture. Classes meet twice a week, and we keep the groups small, so that everyone attending can participate and start speaking Spanish right from the start.
We've quickly found that we need to provide more of these free classes each week to accommodate the high demand. We need your help to be able to continue and expand our free lessons to everyone who needs them.
The funds raised will be used to pay for the teachers doing this work plus some small administrative expenses. Our minimum cost per hour per group is $50, and we expect to have eight weekly groups at 2 hours each. That comes to $800 a week. We're able to cover the cost ourselves initially. But over the next 25 weeks, it will amount to $20,000, well beyond the scope of what we can provide on our own. This is why we're asking for your help. We need your support to keep this important work going.
Every dollar you can donate will make a difference. We will keep everyone posted via our LinkedIn account about the number of students reached and their performance over the time. And if for any reason we don't use all the funds as expected, we will donate the difference to UNICEF for Ukranian children
