Help save Chuck's Heart!

The start of Chuck's Story:On December 18th Chuck was experiencing some shoulder pain that had previously been diagnosed as bursitis. He decided after a couple days of aches and pains he would make an appointment at the nearby clinic. He went into the doctors office and they discovered his blood pressure to be dangerously high, so they sent him to the United Hospital emergency room to be tested further and get it regulated.
After he arrived at the hospital he was admitted to the cardiac care unit of United Hospital. After getting his blood pressure regulated they did many tests finding that Chuck has Congestive Heart Disease and his heart was in very bad shape. An angiogram discovered that he had 100% blockage in his left artery and 70% in his right. There was also a 100% blockage in a rear chamber artery that had less of an impact on Chuck’s heart. After much conversation with doctors Chuck decided to have angioplasty to open the blockage. This procedure was scheduled for Tuesday December 26.

Chuck did stay in the hospital which meant being In the hospital on his 54th birthday and Christmas! Chuck made a the best of it, joking with his nurses, had many visitors and was in great spirits during his stay. In addition, he had his iPad and a full lineup of college bowl games to watch (classic Chuck).

On December 26, after the procedure was performed, Chuck suffered from cardiac arrest, causing him to lose consciousness and suffer complete failure of heart. The doctors, with the assistance of a Lucas machine, performed CPR for 80 minutes, until they could connect him to an ECMO machine. He was rushed to Abbott Northwestern, where they have been working diligently to help Chuck.

Chuck could be out of work for months to completely recover from this tramatic episode. If the heart is not strong enough to recover, Chuck will have to have a heart transplant, making his recover significantly longer.
