Rob's House
Don protégé
Hi, my name is Julia, and I am asking for your help. As many of you may or may not know, my brother, Rob, along with so many others, suffered from a disease called addiction. Sadly, this addiction took his life on July 15, 2011. Many people that you know, or you yourself, also suffer from some form of this disease. My husband and father of my children, Adam, also lost his life to his disease on June 5, 2018. So many more names and faces could be added to this list. We all know them.
This fundraiser is to start a dream that my mother, Hyden, and I had for a very long time. All too often, those who are suffering can not afford the treatment and therapy that they truly need. The rehab facilities around Texas are quite good, but also quite expensive. The free facilities are few and far between, and often include a 28-day stay, and then you are left to fend for yourself. Quality inpatient and aftercare for those we love most are often unattainable, especially if you have no insurance, which most addicts do not. A quality rehabilitation facility can range from $10,000 on the low side to over $50,000 when you are self-pay. Unfortunately, most of those addicts that we love have lost their jobs and insurance a long time before the time they truly seek help. This leaves families, friends, and individuals seeking treatment stuck with no place to go.
Mom and I wanted to start Rob's House in honor of my brother. We wanted to create a scholarship fund and charity for those who have no place left to go. The ultimate goal is to start sober houses to give our loved ones a place to go when they are in transition from detox and rehabilitation into the real world. These facilities are pricey and most cannot afford the initial care, much less what is necessary for them to have the tools necessary to succeed in life again. Sadly, mom passed a year and a half ago before we got to fulfill this dream. Now, it is my time to keep it alive. This is where I need your help.
I am looking to start small. I currently have two individuals with a critical need. They are in desperate need of a residential facility for a minimum of 28 days but possibly up to 6 months. I have been in contact with several facilities in Central Texas, Austin, Dallas, and Kerrville. I have been working with these incredible facilities to find placements. We have been successful at finding spots that are available immediately but must have a down payment first. As soon as we receive the initial funds, our most critical patient will be admitted. Currently, this patient is in a hotel in Kerrville waiting.
If you can find it in your heart to help, we would be so grateful. If you cannot help, please share this with whomever you know. The goal is to create a sustainable charity that helps those who are not able to help themselves. Eventually, Rob's House will serve anyone with a need who is ready to get better. We want to offer scholarships for rehabilitation centers, sober living, counseling and therapy, life skills, job training and placement, and so much more. Addiction doesn't have to be the end. In fact, it is just the beginning.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11
