#GLA BEACHSIDE SERVICE

Hi my name is Taylor Rush. I am a junior at the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur in Villanova, PA. I am trying to raise $3,000 in order to fund a unique educational & cultural experience with an organization called Global Leadership Adventures. If you have not yet heard of GLA, they offer globally-minded high school students journeys that have been described as “life-changing,” and “inspiring.” Their programs are offered in Africa, Asia and Latin America and students from around the globe come together to volunteer side by side with local people, learn first hand about social issues and explore places of historical and cultural significance. Although each program is different, they all build awareness of other cultures, educate students on important issues, and develop leadership skills necessary to be effective in a globalized world. I hope to participate in a 10 day community service program in the Dominican Republic this summer. While there, I will be working on sustainable projects including building clean-burning wood stoves to reduce deforestation, & building a school out of discarded plastic water bottles! I will also be a friend & role model to local children at a Haitian resettlement village. This program will give me the opportunity to experience another culture firsthand, to learn about important issues in other parts of the world, and to become a more globally aware person. Due to the high cost of international travel, I am reaching out to the community to help sponsor me on this life changing journey. Please help me get to the Dominican this summer!
