Save the Tasmanian Writers Centre!

Have you ever loved a Tasmanian book?

Have you ever walked with Rachel Treasure down a dirt road, trekked with Katherine Scholes to Africa, explored new worlds with Tansy Rayner Roberts, or followed Richard Flanagan into the heart of the Tasmanian wilderness? Laughed with Bradley Trevor Greive, gasped with Amanda Lohrey, swooned with Melanie Milburne, or raged with James Boyce?

The Tasmanian Writers Centre exists to support the storytellers of today and tomorrow, and we are in trouble. We need your support to raise funds in the short term to get back on an even keel, to roll out a new range of programs and initiatives, and to support Tasmanian writers and readers into the future. Our staff, board and volunteers have been working hard to keep the doors open, but we can’t continue to do this for much longer. Timing is tight — if we can’t make this goal by the end of April, we’ll have to close.

If you’ve ever loved a Tasmanian story, or been entranced by the work of one of our many talented authors, please consider showing us some love. No amount is too small (or large!), and if you aren’t able to support us financially, we’ll be forever grateful if you can share our campaign with your friends and colleagues.

WHAT WE’LL DO WITH THE MONEY

With your support…

We will support and promote the many amazing writers in the Tasmanian community, offering workshops and masterclasses, connecting writers with publishers, and providing  manuscript assessment services as well as other information and advice

We will advocate for and promote the work of Tasmanian writers on a national stage, providing opportunities to meet with readers, and to connect with a wider audience

We will provide opportunities for readers to engage with reading and writing across all genres and styles in ways that are not only enjoyable and stimulating, but also bring public attention to the importance of literature and literacy to the Tasmanian community

We will apply for new sources of funding and develop new partnerships that will secure the finances of the Tasmanian Writers Centre over the longer term

We will begin planning for the 2019 Tasmanian Writers and Readers Festival

We will employ a new Director to make the vision of a renewed and rejuvenated Writers centre a reality

Please donate, and help keep Tasmanian storytelling alive.
