This is my daughter, Tammy Alcalde. She is brilliant, beautiful, funny, ambitious, and always putting the needs of others before herself. But now she is the one in need of help. Tammy has just been diagnosed with a rare form of Ectopic Breast Cancer.
Tammy is only 37 years old. She is married to her best friend Steve and they have been together for over 18 years. Together Tammy and Steve have two amazing children, Lincoln and Tessa. As you can imagine, the news of her diagnosis has drastically changed their world emotionally, practically, and now financially. Now this family desperately needs assistance if Tammy is to beat this disease.
This journey began for Tammy when she noticed a lump under her arm. Tammy visited her doctor and they scheduled a series of tests. A mammogram led to a sonogram, then a biopsy, an MRI, a core biopsy, oncology markers, PET scan...and the list continues until we finally learned that it was a rare form of breast cancer. Tammy now has a team of doctors, surgeons, and oncologists advising her and doing their best to help her. She will have 5 months of weekly chemo treatments, invasive surgery, and then 6 weeks of radiation ahead of her.
Tammy and her family need your help. The length of recommended treatment will force Tammy, a kindergarten teacher of 14 years, out of work for at least one year. We know that this significant loss in pay, as well as the mounting medical bills, will be devastating for Tammy and her family, so we are trying to relieve this burden as much as possible so she can focus on her health.
