Tami’s BDay $Raiser for Jay
Donation protected
Several years ago after the bucket challenge was over, I met Jay. No doubt lots of $$ is needed for research and Jay Smith is a champion for that cause. He is an ALS celebrity, if you will, creating a following and awareness through his site www.every90minutes.org
What we missed while we were dumping water buckets on ourselves is that each of these individuals with ALS are fighting an entirely different battle to stay alive. They fight against an insurance system that ignores their needs. A system that doesn’t cover the daily in home care they need to ensure they can have every moment with their children and spouse, experience a summer vacation, and squeeze whatever joy from life that their failing body can’t take from them.
You see, this father, husband, award winning inventor, brilliant and funny man (at least this is what his mom says about him), and entrepreneur ....can no longer swallow. This simple action we do without thought is the biggest threat to his life. Surviving,
for Jay, is more than just his will to live. I know he has plenty of that. It’s money. Money to pay for his in home care, other medical expenses not covered, and some help keeping his family above water with the loss of his income.
Ive been involved with fundraising for Jay over the last few years and this year I thought “why not do one of those birthday fundraisers?”
So here it is. It would mean the world to me if you would consider this gift for me this year. I don’t want wine. I don’t want Kendra Scott. All I want for my birthday is to feel good inside- and this would accomplish that.
Thank you.
