Tamara's War Againist Cancer

Don protégé
I never imagined myself in a position to ask others for anything, until the day that my entire world came crashing down around me in almost an instant with the words "you have Cancer."  You see, I have always been healthy and have always worked hard to take care of others as a Critical Care Nurse, and now, at 47 years old,  the Lord has decided that my journey is also going to include Stage 4 Colon Cancer and all the Medical Bills and financial brokenness that comes along with a devastating illness. I went from a beautiful vacation in Santa Barbara one minute, to an Emergency Surgery and devastating diagnosis, with no real symptoms and no real family history, in a week's time. The next thing I knew, I was the patient with the IV pole  and literally 18 bags of medication and tubes coming out of every direction, trying to figure out, what was going to happen to me next.
Again, I never thought to ask anyone for monetary help, and then a friend of mine asked me if i had a "Go Fund Me" page, and  I had to stop and think for a moment about what this could do for me? I have been blessed with a wonderful friend who is semi-retired who takes care of me full-time, but I was required to stop working all together the day I was diagnosed, which meant no-one was taking care of my mortgage, or my medical bills or my other day to day expenses. My disability check from the hospital was less than half of my mortgage, for the entire month! Then it hit me that my friend may have been right! What if all the people who offered to help could help get the mortgage paid and keep you from loosing the house? What if they could all come together and help pay the medical co-pay for the year so that you could get the organic food you need for the clean/keto diet during Chemo now?  Or for the medical bills that still seem to come, even though your yearly deductible  has been met? And it finally occurred to me why this could work for me too.
The stories of how the system doesn't want to help those of us in critical medical situations, even when we legitimately go to them and ask up front trying to prevent a problem from occurring, like our parents taught us to do growing up, are heartbreaking, and they are not only mine. But I'm hoping that maybe for all the times that I've gracefully said "no thank-you" to so many people who have offered to bring food or other things, because Mikey has has things so well under control here, that maybe you could throw in $5 toward the groceries it takes to keep me eating organic applesauce during Chemo or to help get the mortgage paid this month...or last, because we are still one month behind, and it would help us out a ton! In advance I will say Thank You and tell you that you have no idea what it means to have this or any kind of help from anyone in a situation like this! But most of all from you, whomever you are, that you picked me and you decided that you wanted your cause to be me too! I thank you from the bottom of my heart and wish you all the best that this life can give you!
