Talliktok First Ascent Expedition

Our team plans to climb Talliktok (right side of image)

an unclimbed peak deep in the Alaskan bush. Talliktok is located in the Hidden Mountains, east of Merrill pass, approximately 70 miles North of Kenai. This trip will be a gigantic undertaking for us. The logistics of getting there, the rough terrain full of bears and mosquitos, in relatively unknown area will make this expedition much more committing than anything we have embarked on. Not only will we be attempting a climb that has never been done before, this will also be the first trip either of us has made to Alaska. As normal Joes that work and have homes and bills, we are finding the travel costs and baggage fees alone are a huge obstacle. We have ropes, cams, nuts, bolt kit, and all the normal climbing gear. We still need some other assorted things like: satellite communication for safety/rescue, food, better storm clothing for harsher conditions, and bug spray by the gallonJ, machete for alder bushwhacking, and a few other little camping things I am sure we will find as we get closer. We plan to use any funds to help cover these expenses.

THE PLAN:
Fly out of San Francisco on an airliner at the beginning of June 2018 to Anchorage. Hop on a smaller prop plane in Anchorage and fly to Kenai. Load all of our gear and supplies on even smaller bush planes and fly into the wilderness to our drop point. The area has some very rough terrain so we will most likely have 2 bush planes. One plane will be on floats to get the bulk of the gear on site, while the second plane will be on bush tires in order to shuttle gear as close to our destination as possible.

Then the real adventure will begin as we navigate the 12 miles of thick alders and grizzlies to find our way into the cirque where Talliktok resides. We will have a food drop midway through the trip.  The remainder of our time will be spent attempting to climb the peak and anything else that looks nice in the surrounding area.  Then we will have to crash back down the valley with all our gear back to our pick-up point. Our estimate is that the whole trip will take about a month.  Realistically it will take a week to get in and another week to get out, so we will have about 2 weeks to explore the area and find passage to the summit.

These donations will make it possible for us to live out our dream of going on a real expedition and being the first people to step foot on the summit. We greatly appreciate any donations received and plan to share with everyone what happens out there.
