Take my play to LA!

Hi, I’m Emma, and I’ve spent a lot of my life in theatres. From primary school I was always onstage, but about 12 years ago I sat down to write my first full length play, which was produced, and well-received. So I kept writing.

My latest play is about to premiere in North Hollywood, L.A.

What’s it about?

Piece of Mind is a comedic drama about two nurses who devise a unique but risky business enterprise to help fund their retirement. All does not go to plan!

When’s this happening?

The actors are already in rehearsal. It’s hitting the stage in early December and running for six weeks. Then late in 2023 we’re heading to off-Broadway in New York City. It’s pretty exciting!

Launching a new play in the USA is not an easy task. But to pare it back to basics, you need these things:

Introducing John Lant and Tamra Pica of Write Act Repertory, a not-for-profit professional theatre company. We met two years at a zoom event and have been in discussion since. John and Tamra develop and produce new work with the potential for a long life onstage. They think this play has what it takes.

Funds

This is a big moment for me as a playwright, and I’m reaching out to ask for assistance in this venture. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated. My husband and I are investing a significant sum. But we’d love your support.

Why?

Because even in a world with so many urgent and pressing needs, stories still matter. Theatre and the arts matter. My driving force is writing great stories for the stage with leading roles for older women. This 4 character play is lead by 3 women over 50. Visibility and representation matter. The lives and concerns of older women matter. While this play is a comedy, that is at its core.

What will your donation be used for?

The basics: theatre hire, wages for actors and director, insurance. That’s it. John and Tamra are keeping the costs to an absolute minimum to make this viable. Ticket sales will be rolled over to re-invest in the off-broadway production.

Can I see the show?

Yes! Plans are underway to film the production. Tickets will go up for sale in due course. Anyone who donates $250+ will be offered a ticket to see the streamed version at no cost.
