Taika's piano
This is the story of a girl (my daughter Taika, 13 years old) and a piano (a 1922 Steinway). 
The piano belonged to my grandparents. I grew up listening to it, and words can only hint at how special this instrument is. Now the member of my family who inherited it is in serious need of money and the piano has been put on Craigslist.
Enter the girl. Since we moved to Finland seven years ago, Taika has been taking formal piano lessons at a music academy. First we lived in the country and we needed to commute almost an hour to her class. Last year we moved to the capital, Helsinki. Taika auditioned and was accepted into a prestigious music school. Her skills are progressing wonderfully, she is getting top marks (10/10), and most importantly, she simply loves playing. Her goal is to be a professional musician.
Need I add that the money will be used to help buy the piano for her? We would do it all ourselves if we could, but we can't. And so we are asking for help...
We need to come up with as many donations as possible to meet the total amount of $11,400 by March 21, when an interested party is coming to look at it. After we get the piano, it will live at my mom's house until we return from Finland.
Finally, for those who are wondering, we are committed to making this happen. If we don't raise the full amount here, we will figure out another way. But if it does prove impossible, all donations will be refunded.
It is very important to me to try to save this precious and unique instrument for Taika. Between the generations, I am just in the middle, and I pray to be able to hear her play it one day... and many days after that...
