DIS: Studying Sex Trade in Denmark

My name is Keyla, and I am a current POSSE and SEO scholar at Franklin and Marshall College where I study sociology. I am fundraising for the ability to study the sex trade, social action and gender/sexuality in Copenhagen, Denmark for the upcoming fall semester through the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. My interest in studying these topics stems directly from the intersectionality of my own identities, and the desire to be a well-educated advocate for women's rights both nationally and internationally. As a member of the Alice Drum Women's Center, and a spoken word poet, I have dedicated myself to creating open discussions, safe spaces and advocacy for women of varying existences. I have an uninterrupted loyalty for empowering women as they exist.  Growing up as a young Afro-Latinx woman in the Bronx within the context of a traditional/antiquated household deprived me of the freedom to pursue my own empowerment within the earlier stages of my life. Now that I have been granted this meritorious opportunity to further my educational and professional endeavors in order to become a stronger activist for women's rights, I hope to pursue it. Due to the fact that I was raised by a single legal guardian, I do not have the privilege of having family assistance with the costs of the program. All of the money donated will be used for the living expenses while abroad, student visa expense, cost of books, and the flights. A donation of any quantity puts me one step closer to pursuing a successful study abroad experience.
