INNOCENT PUP HIT BY A CAR AND LEFT FOR DEAD!! HELP US GET HER THE SURGERY SHE DESPERATELY NEEDS!!
If you’ve yet to have the pleasure, let me introduce you to Miss Muffin! So aptly named because she is so big and sweet. You’d never know upon meeting her, that when she offers you her paw it’s not because she wants to shake. It’s because she’s in a great deal of pain and hopes you’ll be the one to heal her.
Muffin came to PCS after we received a message about an abandoned and injured Pitbull who’d been seen near some boarding stables in Sacramento. Within an hour we were out in the tall weeds and muck looking for her, only to leave empty handed. We returned later that evening to try again and this time, leaving without her was NOT an option. We weren’t about to let this poor girl spend one more night out in the cold!
After walking for what seemed like miles down a trail bordering an empty creek that fell about 50 feet straight down… there she was! In a hallowed out tree stump, curled up in a ball and not at all happy to see us. Not that we could blame her! Poor girl, heaven only knows how long she’d been out there in pain, alone and hungry, eating anything and everything she could find to survive.
We took our time tossing her treats in an effort to earn her trust. Nothing, we’d get closer and she’d back away, never putting any weight on her injured paw. We quickly realized we’d have to change tactics if we were going to catch her quickly and without her injuring herself further attempting to get away. Without a catch pole, this was going to be no easy task. Luckily, we did have a crate and one of our volunteers had a fishing contraption that we used to loop her and hold her in place. Unfortunately, it was collapsible and quickly went from 10 feet to 3 feet when she pushed against it. Now she is a mere 3 feet from us. Snapping, growling, terrified and willing to do anything to get away. We looked at each other and just knew, this is it. We can’t let her go, not an option. She’ll starve to death. We had to get her into the crate and fast. With one quick shove by us and immense struggle by her, Muffin was in the crate! She was safe!
Our hope was that in a week or so, after she’d adjusted to her new clean and comfortable accommodations she’d warm up to us. HA! Silly humans, within hours of settling into her foster home, she was eating out of our hands and giving kisses through her crate, so happy and full of gratitude. Muffin is an absolute love! Beyond worthy of having her very own forever home, complete with dinners out at sidewalk cafes and a warm king sized bed to share with her people!
Muffin was quickly seen by our regular vet, who determined she had a large break in her right elbow. Likely the result of being of a hit and run. She must have dragged herself to somewhere safe and suffered all alone until her broken elbow healed out of its place with a giant piece of bone chipped off MONTHS later. However, due to the difficulty of the operation, Muffin was referred to an Orthopedic Surgeon ( the same one who operated on Howie). Can you imagine? Hit by a car! Yet no one stopped to see if she was ok? No one called animal control? They just left her there to fend for herself in the cold? All alone, broken and scared? Shame on them!
While some humans could inflict this horrific act to a sweet, innocent animal and go on as if nothing happened and leave her to DIE IN PAIN... We know there are far more kinder souls out there who will help her. This is where you come in! The estimated cost for Muffin’s surgery with the Orthopedic Surgeon is approximately $2400. Following her surgery, Muffin will be on pain medications and require follow up appointments to monitor her recovery. As with any medical procedure, there is always the potential for unforeseen expenses. To ensure Muffin gets all the care she so desperately needs, PCS has decided to set our fundraising goal at $3200. PLEASE, PLEASE DONATE. NO AMOUNT IS TOO SMALL!
