Help send our robotics team (S.W.A.T.) to the SeaPerch National Competition at Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge

Hi,

We are Nathan, Alex and Alex. We are homeschooled 6th-8th graders from Fredericksburg, VA.  We participated in a Sea Perch robotics program this year and learned a lot, enjoyed ourselves and placed in the regional competition. This means we were invited to the National Competition in Baton Rouge. We are trying to be an independent team run by kids so we are hoping to raise enough money to pay for ourselves and chaperones to go to nationals. We appreciate you taking the time to read about our team and any assistance you can give us.

What is S.W.A.T?
S.W.A.T is a 3 person robotics team. We are 6th-8th graders, homeschooled in the Fredericksburg, VA area

What does S.W.A.T stand for?
Scientific Working Aquatic Technology

Why help our team?
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us. We were invited to attend the National Competition after placing in our regional competition. This was our first year in a robotics competition and we did really well, learned a lot and had a lot of fun and would like to continue to the National Competition.  If we do well in the competition it could help us get into college and maybe with scholarships.

What do we need?
$4300
1) Registration Fee $500   (5*$65 /registrant, chaperone +$175 ROV fee)
2) Airfare $3000 ($600 per person)
3)Lodging and food  $800  ($160 per person) We would like to stay on the university’s campus to enjoy the “college experience” that the university provides.

When do we need it?
We have to register for the competition by April 25th. We are hoping to be able to register sooner.

What is Sea Perch?
SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) in an in-school or out-of-school setting. Students build the ROV from a kit comprised of low-cost, easily accessible parts, following a curriculum that teaches basic engineering and science concepts with a marine engineering theme. The SeaPerch Program provides students with the opportunity to learn about robotics, engineering, science, and mathematics (STEM) while building an underwater ROV as part of a science and engineering technology curriculum. Throughout the project, students learn engineering concepts, problem solving, teamwork, and technical applications.  For more information, visit www.seaperch.org
