As many of you know Jay received a 3rd Lung Transplant in August 2020.
Jay received a Double Lung Transplant, the gift of life.

Unfortunately, Jay had a life altering complication during surgery that has left him blind.

This GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Jay Zebroff. The money will be used to help Jay acquire the support services, training services and technological devices designed to provide aid for blind persons.

Jay was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a genetic disease that causes severe damage to the lungs, digestive system and other organs in the human body. Jay recently had lung transplant surgery for his third time. He received a double lung in 2003 and a single lung in 2011.

Due to a complication during the recent double lung transplant, Jay unfortunately became blind.

At age 44, Jay will now need to embrace the long road of rehabilitation with the significant added challenge of being blind and learning to adapt and thrive to a new way of life.

Jay’s attitude to this latest turn of fate,

“This is just one more hurdle. One more obstacle. I have to stay positive.”

Why is it so important to # GoFundJay?

Jay was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was just six months old. Doctors told his parents he might not live to see his first birthday. He proved them wrong and has been proving people wrong ever since.

Jay has survived three lung transplants because Jay is a fighter. He has always taken responsibility for his medical condition and he has inexhaustibly embraced a positive attitude no matter how insurmountable the obstacles before him.

Jay has the ability to inspire his friends, family and the large array of medical professionals who have worked with Jay since he was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

Jay leads by example and this is invaluable for all those facing life’s challenges.

The goal of the gofundme campaign for Jay Zebroff is to raise $25 000 CDN.

The money raised will be spent to pay for new technological devices and treatments to assist Jay in the personal and professional challenges that he will now encounter as a blind person.

For example, a BrailleNote Touch 32 Plus costs $5695 USD and a Juliet 120 Double-Sided Braille Embosser costs $4,495 USD. These are just two pieces of technology that Jay is already exploring as he moves forward.

In addition to technology, there are a variety of training services and treatment modalities that help accelerate the learning and transition process. Jay has zero intention of resting idle. He is already looking into ways by which he can return to work and perhaps tackle a few new projects related to his situation.

Jay has expressed an interest in becoming more active as an advocate for funding cystic fibrosis research and the medical team at Vancouver General Hospital truly hope Jay decides to share his story and his gift as he takes on his recovery and new circumstances.

This cause is something that matters to any of us who have ever cared for loved ones facing medical challenges. It also matters to all of us who value the triumph of the human spirit.

Jay’s approach to life has inspired so many people along the way, especially the medical team at VGH. He has had an amazing team of doctors, respiratory therapists and nurses for each of his three transplants, as well as all the extensive care and consultations in between these major surgeries. Many of these professionals have gotten to know Jay personally and refer to him as,

“…the most positive patient we have ever seen.”

The surgeons, doctors, respiratory therapists, nurses, healthcare professionals, family and friends who are so inspired and actively engaged in helping Jay to continue to embrace life’s challenges as a cystic fibrosis survivor would like to express their collective gratitude to all the people who are able to donate money in support of Jay and the role modelling he provides for other patients with serious long-term diseases and to humanity in general.

Furthermore, we deeply appreciate it if you can help us get the world out by sharing the #goFundJay link on your FaceBook timeline.

With Love, light and gratitude,

Thank-you!
