Sustainability Action Challenge UWC Short Course

'Sustainability Action Challenge’ is a UWC Short Course which will be held in Scotland between 10th - 16th August 2020. This is the first time that UWC will be running a short course in partnership with The Outward Bound Trust. Both organisations were founded by Kurt Hahn, a key figure in the development of experiential education. On completion, the course will additionally provide participants with the John Muir Award
This course aims to provide young people, aged 15 to 17, from diverse social and economic backgrounds, with the opportunity to:
· raise their awareness, respect and concern for the natural environment;
· develop skills and qualities that unlock their potential;
· increase their confidence, resilience and determination; and
· enhance their ability to listen and communicate effectively with others and work as a team.
The course consists of a healthy mix of outdoor expeditions and indoor sessions whereby participants are given the opportunity to reflect on the different experiences and challenges and to critically engage with concepts related to the environment and sustainability. Participants will also explore what they can do to bring about positive change in their own communities.
All the work done by the UWC facilitation team is on a voluntary basis. We are strong believers in social justice and our aim is to make this opportunity accessible to the most deserving applicants from Europe and possibly beyond, irrespective or their socio-economic needs. Your support can make it possible for us to partially or fully sponsor deserving students who do not have the financial means to pay for the course fees or travelling costs. Any financial support is highly appreciated, irrespective of the amount you can afford to pitch in. Every little counts! What we offer you in return is not material gain, but rather the opportunity to make a concrete difference in the life of a number of exceptional young persons – the future change makers!
