I have found myself in a tough spot. As many of you know, my husband Jerry has been fighting his battle with cancer for quite a while now. We have reached the point where I can no longer care for his medical needs at home, and he has checked into Valor Hospice at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, NC.
In addition to supporting Jerry in his terminal illness, I have recently experienced a number of challenges myself.
I fell about 9 weeks ago while putting my dog out, which has resulted in my left arm feeling like I have electricity going down it and being very painful. I have started physical therapy to address it.
In the past month, I have had cataract surgery on both eyes, which has improved my vision, which had deteriorated significantly. I can now see better at night, which is helpful in having longer visits with Jerry.
Because I have been experiencing chest pains and have a family history of heart disease, I am having tests done at the Owen Heart Center in Asheville, NC, to find out what condition my heart is in and what we need to do about it. I am also having severe pain in my abdomen, so I am having a scan done to have a look at my gall bladder. It may be stress related, but who knows?
In this moment, I need money for gasoline, firewood, fuel oil, groceries, and other monthly bills. I haven't finished paying last month's bills, which is distressing. After Jerry is gone, almost half of our household income will disappear and he will leave me with no life insurance, pension benefits or other assets. My goal in establishing this fund is simple: I need to get through the next four months and retire enough debt so that I can live off of my income from Social Security and my part-time job while I regain my health. The current amount that I need is $19,000.
Our illnesses and circumstances have cleaned out our reserves. Right now, I am struggling just to put gas in the car to go to see Jerry. Any help that you can render would be much appreciated.
