Surmounting Obstacles

Donation protected
On 21 May, all four of us Douglass girls will embark on a Spartan Race, an obstacle course-type race with growing popularity around the world.

We’ll be taking on voluntary obstacles in this course to assist others in surmounting the unavoidable obstacles that result from poverty.

According to Matti, “People in poverty face obstacles, so we are taking on obstacles to take obstacles from them.”

According to Zoe, “Spartan races are not just runs, they are obstacle courses. In fact, they could be seen as a representation of life. In Hebrews 12:1-2, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before Him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Life is equated to a race. However, for children in poverty, the run is not on a nice smooth track. Their run and life are a struggle with many obstacles. Compassion is an organization that helps children and their families to overcome poverty in Jesus’ name. And that is why you should donate to Compassion.’

Why Compassion? Compassion International works through many avenues to release children from poverty. They offer some families options like chickens or goats or vegetable seeds (and associated training) that changes lives by providing not only ongoing sustenance and income, but more importantly the dignity of productive work. They also work through local networks to provide safety for children at risk and both physical and spiritual care.

Our girls have chosen three Gifts from Compassion’s Catalogue and have already donated over $100 of their own money toward the effort. They are wanting to give a family an Income Generating Bundle ($200), to Help a Girl at Risk ($250) and to supply ten children with Bibles ($100). By raising $500 with this effort, we can offer new hope in these ways even after associated expenses.

Follow the links below to contribute directly toward these gifts (any amount is great!). Or donate through the GoFundMe link. Any extra beyond our goal will also go directly to Compassion.

Would you help us offer hope to those with far more challenging obstacles that we’ll ever know?
