Surgery recovery and payment

Our sister Marisa was rushed into emergency brain surgery today(6/20). She was told to go straight to the ER after an optometry visit landed her an MRI. Once her neurologist saw the MRI, she got a lovely ride in an ambulance from San Luis Obispo, all the way up to Stanford hospital where her crack team of surgeons just wheeled her in to remove Gary (the pituitary gland tumor) from her amazing and wonderful brain. 

They ran some more tests, including an additional MRI once she arrived. What they have determined is she has a smallish (grape sized) tumor that they believe has been there for some time and it is pressing on her pituitary gland (causing her to have all sorts of hormone issues, including early menopause) the tumor is also pressing on her optic nerve and that is causing the loss of vision in one eye. She is headed into surgery right now with one of the best brain surgeons in the country. The good news is they don't think it is cancerous and they are going to try to remove it through her nose. Possibly having to avoid cutting into her skull. 

We are so glad they brought her here as the top specialist in this field is practicing here. We are really not looking forward to her lovely and struggling family to receive the bill for these services. This will tap out their existing coverage and leave them with devastating medical bills. The funds collected here would give the family and our glorious, wonderful sister a chance to heal, stress free by covering a portion of their lost wages and some of the uncovered cost of her health care.
