Life changing surgery for Vernon Lewis
Our family are raising money to help my ex husband, Vern, pay for life changing surgery.
In 2015 he rapidly lost 4 stone through vomiting repeatedly every day and was eventually diagnosed with the rare condition Gastroparesis. Vern's case is a severe one and over the years he’s tried many medications and treatments and has been constantly in and out of hospital.
Most recently he was prescribed botox injections directly into his stomach to try and alleviate the illness, and although initially some improvement was seen, subsequent treatments have been less successful. Surgery to implant a pacemaker to keep his digestive system moving, in the same way a pacemaker in a heart will keep it beating, is now his last hope.
This surgery is NOT available on the NHS and it has been confirmed that the NHS will NOT fund it.
Vern has built a long and successful career as a singer and performer, travelling the world to appear on cruise ships and at high end holiday resorts. Like so many other performers Covid-19 brought a sudden halt to all bookings, and future gigs at prestigious venues such as the O2 Arena, Cardiff's Millennium Centre, Glasgow's SEC and London's Apollo have all been cancelled. After a lifetime of hard work providing for his family, Vern now finds himself unemployed.

The physical effects of this dreadful condition along with the sudden unexpected loss of earnings have understandably taken their toll on Vern's mental health. My children long to have their dad back and we're all pinning our hopes on this surgery.
We understand that these are difficult times for so many people, but we're appealing for help to fund this procedure and give Vern his life back, and my children their dad back. Any donation, no matter how small, is hugely appreciated.
