Surgery for Sondel

Hello,
My name is Michelle Panella and I am raising funds on behalf of Sondel Jeremias. I am a missionary traveling to the Dominican Republic in hope to get urgent care for an 18 year old boy who lives in Barahona. I have grown close to Sondel throughout my previous mission trips here. Barahona is a small town near the border of Haiti.
Sondel was recently in a moped accident. He fractured his tibia and fibula and received some care at a clinic in Barahona which had very limited resources for an injury of this magnitude. They tried to pin his fracture two weeks following his accident and placed a cast on it. Unfortunately, when the cast was removed there was a large open wound under it. It has now been three months and the open wound is still present and infected. The bone itself is infected as well and is visible, which is very dangerous and could lead to all kinds of other complications. I had an X-ray taken of his leg at a local clinic as soon as I got here. Even though he has a plate and pins in his leg, his bones are still completely fractured and the rods + pins are infected as well. He will have to have all of it removed.
I have been here for eight days now and it has been a challenge to find the right medical care for Sondel. The wound is getting worse by the day and it is heartbreaking. He is presently living in the back house of his pastors home which, is where I am too. His mom is very poor and cannot care for him. With some advice and research from Doctors in the states, we finally found a hospital in the capital that will, God willing, be able to care for him.
He is currently being looked after by a pastor down in Barahona with limited resources. I am hoping to help him however I can. I am asking first and foremost that you pray for Sondel. The hospital stay, surgery, and physical therapy will cost a significant amount of money. If you feel lead to help financially toward his hospital bills, he and I would be so very grateful.
