Owen's bladder surgery

Donation protected
Owen was born  6 years ago with bladder exstrophy, which means that his bladder was on the surface of his abdomen.  He had his first surgery at 4 days old.  It entailed cracking his pelvis, forming his bladder into correct functional shape and placing it into the appropriate place in his abdomen, while connecting the ureters and adjusting the bladder sphincter and neck.

Since then Owen has had a number of procedures and  multiple large surgeries.  His past two surgeries did not go well and it was discovered that Owen does not tolerate a urethral catheter without severe bladder spasms.  Even though it has been felt that Owen has received excellent care within the state of Vermont,  a second opinion was requested.

Fast forward to present day.  Owen's case has been reviewed by the MIBEC group. (Multi-institutional bladder exstrophy consortium)  He is scheduled for surgery on July 23rd at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, with 4 to 5 of the best pediatric urologist in the country performing the surgery together.  Unfortunately,  it has been discovered that his recovery will be between 5-7 weeks and his family lives in Vermont.   With all the multiple visits to CHOP in the past, accommodations at the Ronald McDonald House have not been available and even with a hospital discount, hotel and food costs can add up quickly not to mention medical expenses not covered by insurance.

We want Owen to be able at access this opportunity, and want to be able to be with him during his recovery.  Please help us!
