Climbing Kilimanjaro for Kyan

I have had a personal goal for several years to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest freestanding mountain in the world, to celebrate my 40th birthday. I am doing it and on JULY 15, 2015 I leave Florida for Tanzania, Africa to climb Kilimanjaro for 7 days.
Once I found my amazing team to climb with me, I thought I could also raise money for a charity that has done such great work for our son, Kyan, who has autism and for so many other families with kids like Kyan. The charity is Surfers for Autism. We have participated in Surfers for Autism events over the last 2, going on 3 years. Surfers for Autism provides a completely inclusive opportunity for kids with special needs to go out and surf for the day with all of the volunteers and it is NO CHARGE to the families. Not only that, they provide a festival for the kids, food for all the families and just an amazing inclusive feeling for a day at the beach. I can not explain how much these volunteers do but I will try.There are 100 plus kids out there with special needs and hundereds of volunteers helping these kids get on boards and more patient than I could ever be. I have seen my son surf some days, I have seen him kicking and screaming and refusing to surf other days until a volunteer got on a board with him and rode a wave with him and then he was all smiles. Yes, everytime we attend Kyan acts differently but the volunteers never faulter. They take him out every time and they try their hardest. They do this with every kid. It is amazing to stand on the shore and see these kids with disabilites ride a wave and have so many people cheer them on.
So, I am Climbing Kilimanjaro for Kyan to give back to Surfers for Autism. I only ask that you all donate $10 each to support this amazing charity! I will raise a flag when I reach the top of Kilimanjaro that will read Climbing Kilimanjaro for Kyan! All proceeds will go to Surfers for Autism. You can find them at www.surfersforautism.org
