Fight Leukemia! Support Yize!

Our friend, Yize Shao,24 year old, graduated from China Agricultural University with B.S. in Biological Sciences, came to the US in 2011 to pursue his PhD degree in Microbiology. Now he is a PhD candidate in the department of Biological Science at the Florida State University. On April 3rd 2014, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and has been hospitalized at University of Florida Shands Cancer Center in Gainesville. His first round chemotherapy was finished and the efficacy remains to be seen. Since his AML subtype is M4, with poor prognosis, the bone marrow transplant is recommended if the first round chemotherapy is effective in killing all the leukemia cells. However, the coverage from Yize's health insurance is insufficient to pay for his treatment, and Yize comes from a family with average income in China, so the biggest obstacle he is facing now is the financial hardship.

The cancer just hit as a sudden strike, but Yize has been positive and never once showed weakness in front of his friends and family. He has been such a great outgoing friend, a devoted young scientific researcher, and a pleasant character in our life. We really want to support him along the road of fighting cancer!
