Support Our Educational Journey after War in Gaza

Greetings everyone,

I've created this fundraiser to assist my siblings; Mahmoud, Ahmad, and Dena Alkhatib, in supporting their educational journey after their escape from the war in Gaza. The aim is to transfer the raised funds to help them resume their education outside of Gaza. Please take a moment to read their story below.

"We are Ahmad, Mahmoud, and Dena Alkhatib, three siblings from Gaza, Palestine, who have recently faced unimaginable challenges due to the ongoing war in Gaza. Despite our promising academic futures, our dreams were shattered when our universities, neighborhoods, and entire city were destroyed in the war. Forced to flee Gaza, our home, with our family, we currently seek refuge in Egypt, leaving behind the remnants of our lives and education. Now, with uncertainty looming over our future and our family's stability shaken, we are left with nothing to return to, needing to restart our lives from scratch. We humbly reach out for assistance to support the continuation of our education abroad, as it presents us with the chance to rebuild our lives and succeed despite the hardships we've faced.

Our Story:

Last summer, my brother Ahmad and I, Mahmoud, graduated from high school with outstanding GPAs of 92.6% and 93.3%, respectively. Our hard work and dedication earned us places at the Islamic University of Gaza, where Ahmad started his Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, while I, Mahmoud, started a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Just two months into our first semester, the devastating war in Gaza destroyed our entire university campus, halting our education indefinitely. Our dreams were shattered alongside our educational institutions. We were just two eager freshmen, embarking on our university journey, filled with excitement and hope as we navigated our way through campus life, dreaming of a future filled with promise and opportunity.

On the other hand, Dena, our sister, was just starting the first semester of her third year studying dentistry at the University of Palestine. She, too, faced the same situation as us where her university was also destroyed, and her education was suddenly interrupted by the war. With her academic records and transcripts inaccessible, she finds herself uncertain about her future and most probably in need of restarting her bachelor program from the first year. Dena is a very talented and intelligent student, and she inspired us with her passion for her studies. We were always motivated by her to dream big and study hard to secure a good future. But now, that might not be the case.

This war on Gaza has forced us to flee Gaza with our family of six (Mother, Father, three sisters, and us, the twin brothers). Our family sought refuge in Egypt after being displaced multiple times within Gaza. First from our house in North Gaza to the middle of Gaza strip after our entire neighborhood was destroyed, then to the south of Gaza at a friend’s house. After a month and a half of struggling to find proper life necessities of water and food, and being so close to death, we were able to evacuate to Egypt because my sister has US citizenship. However, all the help we received from the US consulate was to give us 72 hours in Egypt, and the rest we must figure out on our own. Leaving our city and everything we once had means starting our lives from ground zero.

Witnessing the destruction of our beloved city and realizing the long road to recovery ahead, we understand that returning to Gaza is not a viable option for us. The educational and healthcare systems have been destroyed, leaving us with no hope for a fulfilling life there. UN reports show that Gaza needs until 2092 to be rebuilt and regain its economic status of 2023. We believe we deserve a better life than that, just like everyone else in this world, which is why we find ourselves needing help to continue our education journey.

Our father, our family's sole provider, lost his main source of income due to the war in Gaza. Even before the conflict, it was already a challenge for our family to afford the tuition fees for the three of us pursuing our bachelor's degrees at the same time. Now, with the loss of our university, education system, and destruction in Gaza, as well as the added expenses of living abroad, the financial burden and college tuition have become even more overwhelming.

What you can help with:

Our primary goal is to restart our education outside of Gaza. This fundraiser will assist us in raising funds to pay for our college tuition, living expenses, and the cost of books & materials required to pursue our undergraduate degrees, benefiting all three of us.

The funds will be going directly to my sister, Sara Alkhatib, and then she will be sending the funds to us directly from her bank to my father's bank account to be able to pay for the education expenses. Your support will ensure that every dollar directly funds our education and aids us in rebuilding our lives. Your generosity will truly make a difference in our journey towards a brighter future.

Cost Breakdown:

This breakdown outlines how your contributions will be allocated towards our education expenses as follows:

• Ahmad – Computer Science ($3,000 contribution to annual expenses over 5 years for tuition fees, books & materials, equipment costs, living expenses & transportation).

• Mahmoud – Civil Engineering ($3,000 contribution to annual expenses over 5 years for tuition fees, engineering supplies, books & materials, living expenses & transportation).

• Dena – Dentistry ($4,000 contribution to annual expenses over 5 years for tuition, dentistry equipment costs, books & materials, living expenses & transportation).

These amounts will total up to our fundraising goal of $50,000, which will help us cover these educational expenses.

Your support and help are very much appreciated, and it will give us hope of continuing our dreams and building the future the three of us dreamt of, not letting this war destroy them."
