Hello, I am Mridul "Maan" from Sydney, Australia. Before all else, I hope you and your loved ones are safe and well.
2020 has not been a great year for everyone around the world. On a more personal front, my wife and I lost our jobs within 2 days in March this year. It wasn’t easy, the double blow and loss of income for the family. While the first week, we were sort of numb and coming to grips, eventually it was about seeing what the options are.
During this time I was supported by friends who willingly and patiently heard me out which helped me immensely. This also made me realise that there are millions who are impacted and may not be lucky enough to bounce back or have someone around. They may be finding it extremely difficult to cope with isolation, income loss, infection, separation from family or friends and worst of all losing someone due to COVID-19. In times like these we all need to share and communicate.
It was this realisation and my own experience in 2020 that made me create https://my2020story.com
my2020story.com is a story sharing platform created mainly to allow everyone to share their 2020 story with each other, to find solace and support from others' 2020 experiences, journey and stories. This platform will allow people to join, read and share stories or memories for free. There is a video at the top that we created to help users understand the features and to share our own story. I hope it will help you find answers to some of questions that you may have. Below are more details about this project, myself and the plans.
I have extensive experience working on web development projects and large digital advertising campaigns in the past and hence this project seemed a natural course of direction after losing my job.
The web app has a Python Django core and React front-end. So far I’ve engaged 4 software engineers to build the core and front-end. I also engaged a designer and an animation company. Since I had limited savings and no job, I negotiated to the last cent to save money. I have also used a lot of unpaid help from friends who agreed to volunteer. Despite this I have spent a large chunk of my savings as well as time in this project. Since May 2020, I have dedicated 14-16 hours per day working to bring my2020story.com to life, which is now 80% complete.
I have run out of funds and now am seeking crowd funding to complete this project. I want to launch the web app in September and the funds I am seeking will go towards remaining development and promotion.
Once completed, I will also need to promote the web app so that more and more people from across the globe can utilise the platform and share their stories.
The web app will allow users to join and share their stories for free through a Standard Story feature. A Premium Story feature will let users share story with extra features which will help cover expenses for server costs.
As a token of thank you, I would like to offer complimentary Premium Story to individual donors where they can share a business or personal story with extra features. For larger business donors ($1000 and above) I would like to offer one month’s advertising in any one of the 3 main story sections on first come first serve basis.
