Support Makies Helping the Community During COVID

Donation protected
This campaign is to support Makies (artists and makers) who are using their creativity and skills to make product that are being donated to hospitals and local charities.

Some of the handmade products include:
Hand sanitizer
Soap
Hand butter (for dry skin)
Scrubcaps
Masks
And more!

These small businesses have been heavily impacted themselves by COVID-19 because all events like Make It  have been cancelled. For many, selling at shows is their main source of revenue, which makes this an incredibly challenging time.

Your donation will be given directly back to the Makies to help cover their manufacturing costs for making their products. This will allow them to continue to giveback to the community.

Anything extra will be donated directly to VGH, St Paul's, University of Alberta, and Royal Alex hospital foundations.  We're donating to hospitals in both Vancouver and Edmonton because that's where our Make It shows are located.

Meet the companies and founders we're currently supporting:

Ancient Mantra Naturals
I am Raman Mand. Founder of Ancient Mantra Naturals. I have my Masters in Organic Chemistry and Botany and I make all natural organic essential oil & skincare products. The interest and passion for learning and formulating natural remedies has been passed through many generations in my family. I hand select and source herbs, ingredients and essential oils from sustainable sources.  All my products are handcrafted, from scratch, in small batches to uphold our quality and freshness standards.

Beth and Olivia
My name is Annie, founder of Beth and Olivia Handmade. Supplies are running low in hospitals and healthcare workers are desperate for the need to heal their hands from hand washing, hand sanitizing and just consistently being hand-on to get things done. I know my hand butters can help, so this is what prompted me to donate to this cause. I have also donated hand sanitizers and lip butters to The Covenant House. As a mother of two teenagers, I am deeply saddened knowing that homeless teenagers need to fend for themselves during this time of crisis.

Box Not Box
Box Not Box is proud to be using our laser cutter to do good. Using acrylic material we already have in the studio, we produce hundreds of Hero Hooks - a hook that was designed to relieve stress from elastic band digging in the ears of our frontline workers who wear surgical masks for 12+ hour shifts. These acrylic hooks are easy to disinfect and the superhero design is made to boost their spirit. We're donating our time and taking on all the expenses so hospitals across the country can focus on providing the best care to their patients.

Chaotic Goods
Hello! My name is Joanne, founder of Chaotic Goods. I create products that are nostalgia driven and environmentally conscious. Knowing many people working on the frontline, I wanted to donate my materials and time to create something to keep the friends and family in our community safe! Wearing masks for a prolonged period of time can cause aching and discomfort behind the ears. In an effort to relieve this pressure, I will be donating scrub caps with buttons to attach masks to. These scrub caps will be given to frontline healthcare workers across Edmonton.

MysGreen
MysGreen is focusing on making products that use eco-friendly materials and only caring on hand-made in 100% products. As an outcome, MysGreen produces re-usable products such as reusable waterproof pouches, beeswax food wrap, and now face masks. These masks are handmade, 100% Cotton, breathable, comfortable and reusable. They expand over nose and chin and allow for easy mounting by stretchy, soft ear loops. MysGreen has been donating masks to the homeless to help battle COVID.

THE FORT DISTILLERY
The Fort Distillery uses locally grown grains to produce high quality craft spirits.  We have started to produce hand sanitizer to meet growing demand.  We have been selling the sanitizer to companies as well as donating large amounts to health care workers, individuals, and some community groups. We are giving free bottles to families that come to the distillery.  We have also given free or discounted bottles to nurses, group homes, and various non-profits.

Now more than ever we need to come together as a united front to beat COVID-19! We're so grateful to all the healthcare workers and others who are working tirelessly to keep us safe and healthy. Our hope is that with your support, our Makies can help to create much needed products that will help out in the community.

Thank you for your generosity,
