Supporting the Dudle family

Peter Dudle was a devoted husband and father, a respected educator, a friend to many, and a legend in the Alabama cycling community. I first met Peter at the beginning of high school, and we immediately became close friends. He influenced me to buy my first road bike, and together we rode many miles and shared countless adventures. Soon after Peter and Josette started dating, they set me up with her friend Patricia. I didn’t know what to expect from that blind date, but it obviously went well. About four years later, Peter was the best man at our wedding.

I feel lucky to have known Peter and to have called him a friend for so long, but tragically his life was cut short when he was struck by a driver while riding his bike. Peter was airlifted to the trauma center at UAB in critical condition, but despite the valiant efforts of the medical team and his own incredible strength and will to live, he succumbed to his injuries on September 21st, surrounded by his loved ones. Left to navigate a world forever altered, Peter's family, including his parents, brothers, sister, and his beloved wife Josette, are faced with the daunting challenge of rebuilding their lives. Perhaps most significantly, Peter leaves behind three children—Elizabeth, Wolfe, and Nicholas—whose futures have been unexpectedly and irrevocably disrupted.

In the wake of this tragedy, medical bills from Peter's time in the hospital continue to accumulate, and the family is now confronted with the responsibility of managing college tuition and associated educational expenses for Elizabeth, Wolfe, and Nicholas. This GoFundMe campaign serves as an opportunity for those of us who knew Peter to come together and support his family during this trying time. Now is the time for them to focus on healing and rebuilding their lives, so your contributions will go toward ensuring that the Dudle kids can stay on track with their college goals.
