Supporting the Carriere's

For many, 2020 will be forever etched in our memories. In am writing to tell you the story of how 2020 has already changed our dear friends life.  In February Monique lost her loving mother. Shortly after, Don's mother became ill and she passed away in April.  Amidst all this grief Monique started to experience changes in her health. On May 13th her symptoms worsened and she was hospitalized as a result of recurring seizures. Later that day, a CT scan revealed a mass in her brain and she was immediately transferred to the Foothills Hospital in Calgary. Over the course of the next 2 weeks she underwent extensive tests.  On May 25, Monique was diagnosed with Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma.  Since then Monique has undergone a brain biopsy where specialists were able to remove only a small portion of the largest mass. Several inoperable tumors remain.  Chemotherapy was started on May 26th as this is a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. Moniques treatment plan in the coming months includes additional chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and extensive stays in hospital isolated from from her family and friends as a result of COVID-19.  The emotional and financial strain this diagnosis and treatment will have on the entire family is immense. Don will require time off work, Monique's treatment will necessitate extensive travel and accommodation, and as many of those close to the family know, Monique's daughter Brooke has a rare metabolic disease called Cystonosis and will soon require a kidney transplant that will also require additional care.  We are asking for your support to help alleviate the financial burden for this family.
