Supporting Laura Stanwood’s Fight Against Breast Cancer

In September 2023, our lives were forever changed when Laura, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, received the heartbreaking news of her diagnosis: Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) at Stage III. What began as a routine mammogram swiftly escalated into a daunting battle against this aggressive form of cancer.

My name is Krista Abidin and I’ve had the pleasure of making memories with Laura for 38 years as one of my closest friends. Anyone who knows Laura can agree that she is the epitome of resilience, and we ALL stand unwaveringly beside her in this fight. Her steadfast determination and unwavering strength have always been her defining characteristics. As a single mother, she has been the anchor in numerous relationships, providing love and support to her daughter and grandson.

Triple Negative Breast Cancer presents unique challenges, marked by its aggressive nature and limited treatment options. Laura's financial struggles have been compounded by the depletion of her retirement savings, which have been stretched thin to cover not only her day-to-day expenses but also the mounting medical bills.

Maxing out all her credit cards has become a painful necessity to make ends meet. With over $15,000 already spent on medical expenses, including the Paxman Cold Cap, appropriate headwear, and $3,000 in copays (from September 2023 through February 2024), the financial strain continues to escalate.

With Laura's surgery scheduled for Thursday, April 18th, the daunting reality of covering 20% of the expenses looms large. Moreover, the prospect of no income during her recovery makes the need for financial assistance urgent. That's why we've set our goal at $30,000 – a figure that reflects the gravity of Laura's situation and the vital support she needs to navigate this challenging journey.
