My name is Bryn and I met Daniela working at a high school in Chicago. We are friends and have kept in touch ever since she graduated high school. Her dream one day is to be a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live. Here is her story.
Daniela is a dreamer who does not qualify for DACA. She came to the US at 7 and has lived here ever since. She is a high school graduate and was planning to return to Mexico the beginning of February (she purchased a plane ticket to depart February 13th) because she felt that if she wanted to continue her education Mexico was her best option. Daniela has always wanted to visit New York City. She made the decision that before leaving for Mexico she was going to go to NYC for 8 hours. She planned to take the greyhound bus arrive in NYC in the morning and then get back on the greyhound bus in the evening to return to Chicago. She ended up detained by ICE in Sandusky, OH on the way to NYC. She has been in detention for 4 weeks. She finally had a court date on Monday, March 5th. Her bond was set at $5,000 and her next court date is set for April. 2nd in Chicago where she will likely be told that she has to return to Mexico. We are raising money for her to pay for the following: the $5,000 bond payment and all lawyer fees for the lawyer who represented her in Ohio. If additional funds are raised they will be given to Daniela to use at her discretion for her return trip to Mexico.
