Supporting Afghan Refugee Families
Tax deductible
Imagine growing up in a large, loving family in a country that was kept safe by the American government and allied forces for twenty years. Now imagine waking up one day to the world you know being turned upside down after a terrorist group detonates a bomb that kills several people in your family as you are two steps away from reaching freedom from the Taliban. That's what our family has endured over the past few months.
As SIV (Special Immigrant Visa) refugees, our Afghan family arrived into Denver on Monday, November 8, 2021, after spending nearly two months at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, while they healed from wounds received from the ISIS-K terrorist attack on August 26, 2021 outside the Kabul Airport. Our family has settled in the Denver metro area where they have family who will be an important part of their support network. As volunteers with Lutheran Family Services, our team called "Greenwood Girl Scouts" lead by Kyle and Karen Greenwood and supported by Girl Scout Troop 68352 and families in the Mayfair neighborhood in Denver, is raising money to help our family rebuild their shattered lives in the United States.
With the exception of a few toys and suitcases of clothes provided by Walter Reed, our family is literally starting from scratch. Lutheran Family Services will provide housing and rent for several months, basic furnishings for the home but they will need a tremendous amount of financial support and other housing necessities moving forward. Once their work visas are approved, the two eligible workers in the household will be able to begin a path to self-sufficiency. Until then, it is up to the our team to raise money for them. We have been tasked with raising $10,000 which will be sent to Lutheran Family Services to pay for their rent and utilities but we also need help with supplies such as a TVs, TV stands, computers, (possibly) a washer/dryer, rugs and gift cards for groceries, public transportation, etc.
Your kindness and support are sincerely appreciated.
*For the safety and privacy of the family in the US and family members still in Afghanistan, we are not at liberty to release detailed information about our family."
