Supporting Ms. V

Viridiana is a beloved Bilingual Instructional Assistant at a public school in South Seattle.  She has an unwavering commitment to our children and families.  But Ms. V's own family has been in crisis mode for some time now and could really use our support.  By pulling together, we can considerably ease at least some of their stress. 

Viridiana's youngest child, Amity, was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder this past spring -- "13th Chromosomal Deletion, leading to Feingold Syndrome Type 2."  This genetic disorder has delayed Amity's overall development and creates additional health issues.  Baby Amity is a year and a half old and still weighs a mere 12lbs.  Viridiana and her partner, Marneil, are currently struggling mightily with Baby Amity's inability to establish sleep regulation. Most nights Amity is unable to sleep, no matter what her parents do to soothe her.  This, understandably, is taking a toll on the entire family.  Viridiana and Marneil are in the process of making appointments with various medical specialists. There is still much to learn about how to best support Baby Amity.  Her diagnosis is so rare that information is hard to come by.

Viridiana took off much of last winter and spring to care for Amity and try to get her weight up.  During this time Viridiana lost her health insurance and the family accrued a great deal of debt. Amity's health struggles, lack of sleep, and debt weigh heavily on them.  Collections agencies are calling, threating to repossess their car, etc.  One way our community could help is by at least lifting the load of debt off their shoulders.
