Support Mark David's Recovery

On Wednesday, April 4, 2012, our younger brother, Mark David Smith, age 37 was found unconscious and alone is his apartment. Doctors believe he had been that way for approximately 36 hours. Mark David suffered two massive strokes, kidney failure, and numerous blood clots in his hands and feet. Many, many tests have been performed, but the underlying cause is still unknown!!!

The outlook seemed grim at first.  Doctors told us he had only a 1% chance of survival. However, by the grace of GOD, his youth and great physical condition, he is improving. He miraculously began breathing on his own 9 days after his initial collapse and is now off the ventilator!!! Doctors are still monitoring his kidney function.  Because of the out of control blood clots, Mark lost circulation to most of his limbs.  Doctors are saying they may need to amputate his right hand, left leg and right foot.  As you can imagine, this was devastating news to Mark! 

Mark is progressing but he still has a long way to go.  We anticipate he'll be in the hospital another month or so.  Then he will likely need to move into a rehabilitation facility.  We're not sure how long it will be before he's able to work again or care for himself.
