Help Darla McKay Fight Cancer Fund
Darla McKay, our mom, grandma, wife and friend, is fighting gallbladder cancer, one of the rarest and hardest to treat cancers there is. It is incurable but maintainable. She's been having stomach issues for years, but doctors never caught it. She learned of her diagnosis in September while visiting family in Pennsylvania, and chose to stay here rather than return to Florida so she could be near her support system during treatments. She travels back and forth to Pittsburgh to work with her specialist and get chemo. The bills, copays and medicine expenses are quickly adding up -- car trips to doctors in Pittsburgh and Cleveland, expensive shots and medications for pain, chemo and blood clots, lengthy hospitalizations for sepsis and pneumonia and a medical helicopter flight are just a few on the list. That's on top of regular bills and special food and precautions when in public to avoid illness and infection. We want her to still have fun and get out to enjoy the days she feels well while on chemo breaks -- and possibly make a visit to her home in Florida. And financially, that's also very difficult. We don't want her to have more stress on top of the already overwhelming situation she's in.
