I’m named in a civil suit filed by the city of Seattle under their new graffiti ordinance. This is a brand new law designed to lower the burden of proof for the city, and make it harder for defendants to get legal representation. Because it’s a civil case, I don’t have the right to a public defender. The wording of the law makes it so that I can be held both financially and criminally liable for the same alleged acts if found guilty under a lower, “reasonable suspicion” standard of evidence. I could also be charged over and over again as the city collects more evidence.

I’m anxious to hire a lawyer that can negotiate a settlement that will prevent further suits from coming down the pipeline. A lawyer who has been helping me with some preliminary stuff pro bono has estimated the cost of hiring a lawyer for this case at $10-15k. I’m on the hook for $20-25k in damages. I’m not under the illusion that I’m going to get out of any of those damages listed in the suit, but I do want to avoid living at the mercy of the city attorneys office until they run out of google street view photos to attach my name to…to be real I’m trying to settle down with my wife, get my orchiectomy, and not be eternally beholden to a case filed against me by a MAGA city attorney from Utah in my hometown!

il really grateful for whatever comes my way. I’m in really unfamiliar legal territory and I would really like to go thru this with the help of a competent lawyer and I just don’t have the money for that or anything really beyond day to day living right now.
