To start I am so humbled to be 1 of the 15 students chosen to participate in this once in a lifetime learning experience. As I am just one student trying to make a difference in the social innovation sector of design.
My name is Zaiah Briscoe and I became keenly interested in videography and graphic design as a young person. I was already voluntarily making documentaries and short movies by the age of 10. Growing up with 2 special needs brothers it truly shaped how I see and interact with the world. Elevated empathy has been a construct in the creation of my personal projects, with a strong focus for socially innovative solutions.
I introduce myself as a graphic designer but I like to think of myself more as a creative problem solver. Fuelled by my passion to communicate and develop new interesting ideas through creativity.
What I hope to bring to the Costa Rica: Design Abroad project is an alternative perspective through research, careful analysis and then creative problem solving. I am especially excited to work with the Costa Rican community as I have experience working and leading teams in collaborative projects.
What I plan to gain from this experience?

Build relationships
Gain perspective (Culture, Environment)
Inspire my own work and creativity
Connect with nature
Push my personal boundaries (Living more rustic, Creatively challenging myself, Impact others)
I believe this is a one in a lifetime opportunity to experience travel, culture, collaboration with amazing people while all contributing to a positive social impact.
Funds will first go towards total tuition ($1500) then other expenses if applicable.
All donations will be contributing to my Bachelor of Design degree from OCAD University.
